Joomla SEO Guide - Joomla 5 SEO Settings Step by Step

Joomla SEO Ayarları

As you know, Google takes into consideration many factors in searches and comes up with the best option for us. I have prepared this guide on what you need to do to stand out in Google rankings.

Following the steps below will help you understand where you are lacking. Let's start...

Configuring Joomla SEO settings

Don't get caught up in too complex thoughts. It will be a short and easy article for you.

Even though reading my blog takes your time, it is very important to get the best result for your website later. Therefore, I recommend that you do not miss any steps.

1-Enable Search Engine Friendly URLs (SEF URL)

First of all, your website URL "https://engingulgor.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12:joomla-seo-rehberi-adim-adim-joomla-5-seo-ayarlari&catid=8&lang=tr&Itemid=115" If it looks like ", it's pretty hard for search engines to read. To ensure your URLs are optimized for search engines, it is very important to enable Search Engine Friendly URLs in your General Settings. It's easier to read for both humans and search engines, and can help improve your site's ranking in search results. To do this, you need to go to System > General Configuration from your Joomla control panel. Then go to the SEO settings section and enable the “Search Engine Friendly URLs” option in the screenshot below.

2-Remove index.php in the URL

You also need to remove index.php from the end of your URL. Because index.php is not necessary for search engines to understand your URLs.

To do this, you simply enable the box next to “Use URL Rewriting” in your General configuration settings.

Once URL rewriting is enabled, rename "htaccess.txt" in the root of your Joomla site to ".htaccess"

3- Remove ID Number in URL

If you are a Joomla user, you know that the platform actually automatically adds a number to your URL as a counting mechanism. Unfortunately, this is not good for SEO. So it's time to get rid of it!

Step 1: Go to System > General Configuration > Articles

Step 2: Click on the “Integration” tab.

Step 3: Set the “Remove Identities from URLs” option to “Yes”. Check again and see the result.

4- Enable Gzip Page Compression

Using gzip compression is considered a great way to significantly reduce the size of files; This can make your Joomla site load faster. Essentially, this is like compressing your file before sending it to the user; just like a zip application! After activating this feature, you will notice a noticeable acceleration in the loading of your site.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you have completed the necessary steps to stand out on Google. The next things you need to pay attention to are Meta descriptions and keywords.
